While Arsenal are trying to prepare in the best way possible their Champion's League last 16 first leg against Barça at Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger was asked in press conference about potential reinforcements and last minute transfer to expect in London. He then assured there would not be any more transfer moves at Arsenal - except for Debuchy - unless a very special someone was to knock on the door...
"Debuchy is a possibility, said the French manager. At the moment it doesn't look likely but it is still a possibility. The whole period was much quieter than I expected. I thought there would be much more activity. A miracla can always happen, someone can knock on your door and if Messi knocks on my door at 6 pm tonight, I will not say 'please go back to Barcelona.''
That would mean Messi lied when he said he wouldn't play anywhere else in Europe than in Barça. Very unlikely. It was a nice way from the Frenchman to declare once again his admiration for the Argentine. He'll be able to say it to his face when Messi comes to the Emirates, as a Barça player, on February the 23rd.
*Since Wenger spoke, Arsenal and Bordeaux have agreed to a loan deal for Matthieu Debuchy, who is going back to France's Ligue 1, 3 years after he left Lille OSC for the Premier League.
